The Brewery

The first and still the best in Matlock, the Matlock Wolds Farm Brewery is a family run business opened in 2014. Having started by supplying a few bottles to the local newsagents, we now supply many places in the Derbyshire Dales and the wider Peak District.

Should you wish to visit to buy some beer please don’t drop in on spec, arrange this by phoning or emailing first as we do not have a tap room.

The Beers

We have a regular offering of six beers. These range from our best-selling Riber Gold, a refreshing golden ale, to our award-winning rich, dark Classic Porter.

Father and son brewing duo use a world-wide range of hops and malts to keep their beers interesting. We make use of traditional hops such as English Fuggles and Goldings in The Bitter End or noble hops Tettnang and Saaz in Riber Gold. We also make use of bold American hops like Cascade, Chinook, Columbus, Summit and Citra.

The Location

Our brewery is in the picturesque spa town of Matlock, high up on the northern slopes of the Derwent Valley. The brewing kit is housed in what was a disused former  wooden farm building which was starting to fall into disrepair and now stands as a reminder of what was once the operational Wolds Farm.

We’re perfectly placed for customers across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire!

Beers

Our Six Regularly Available Beers

All of our beers are free from animal products making them suitable for vegans.  We suggest you refrigerate our bottled beers before pouring.   Since the bottled beers are unfiltered and contain no finings they put down a sediment which you may prefer to leave behind.  There’s also seasonals so keep your eyes peeled for these.

100CC (4.9% ABV)

An American Pale Ale brewed using Clear Choice barley and Dark Crystal malt. The beer is hopped up using three C’s: Chinook, Cascade and Citra. Chinook gives an intense bitterness, Cascade adds floral and fruity flavours and Citra is used after the end of the boil to give a characteristic tropical fruit aroma. The Dark Crystal malts add some rich caramel flavour to complement this.

To The Bitter End (4.2% ABV)

An English Bitter made using Clear Choice barley, Black malt and Light Crystal malt, giving a deep chestnut coloured body. The beer is loaded full of the classic English hops, Fuggles and Goldings. A satisfying, malty beer with a generous measure of hops, yet low in alcohol for the style.

Classic Porter (4.9% ABV)

Brewed using Clear Choice barley, Black malt, Chocolate malt and Dark Crystal malt to give a rich roasted, chocolaty base. We use Northdown, Cascade and Bramling Cross hops for complementary dark fruit and citrus flavours.

High Tor (4.0% ABV)

An American Pale Ale brewed using Clear Choice barley, Munich and Cara malts.  The beer is single hopped with a liberal dose of Columbus hops.  The use of hops late in the process gives lots of citrus flavours and aroma.

Riber Gold (4.3% ABV)

A golden ale made using Clear Choice barley, Cara malt and Light Crystal malt, hopped with both U.S. and traditional Europe noble hops. It is a light, refreshing beer suited to all tastes with subtle bitterness and a fruity aftertaste.

Simcoe (3.8% ABV)

An American pale ale made with Simcoe hops. It is brewed with Clear Choice barley and Light Crystal malt, giving a bright golden body. Simcoe adds a prominent bitterness, light fruit and pine flavours and a bright tropical fruit aroma on the nose.
